Music Review by Samir Shah (India, 01/12/08)
The song is about personification of love. The opening piece on flutes and pipes followed by a few strokes on mandolin signify the person and the feelings of love, respectively, the sitar is for the result of the blending of the individual and the feelings of love and then sarangi/cello is for the resultant river that flows. Rafisaab has to sound like how love would sound if it was personified. At the same time he has to match the mannerisms of the actor Joy Mukherjee. Nayyar saab has retained the sarangi/cello combo in the lead and contra, throughout the song so that the feel of love is constant in the song.
The use of both male and female voices in the chorus is the masterstroke, sone pe suhaga, as if the male voice asks ho ho ho ho and the female confirms ha aa aa aa aa. The vibrofone is used in single chords played at the end of the melody piece (not in the gaps), the resonance filling the gaps, as if to add a dripping effect to the feeling of love ! The soft violins in the background for the soft cushioning as in love. Great creativity, great singing, great music. Out of the world.
